Nurturing Artists with Bradford Producing Hub

At DYT, we recognise the importance of cultivating and nurturing curiosity, not only within ourselves as artists but also within our audiences and communities. This is why we work with partners to support and develop artists by inviting them to join us as active participants in our process.

Like James Mounsey, a Shipley-based dance artist who joined us as part of Bradford Producing Hub’s Behind the Scene’s placement. James spent three days with us at The Place where he was invited to participate in some of the research and development for our newest production. At the heart of our work is to include everyone in the creation process as we believe everyone’s contribution is valued. We invited James to participate in some of the activities including learning how to use an aerial rig.

James said: “I had an amazing 3-day experience with DYT. Their way of approaching work was both interesting and mindful of who was in the room with them. Watching them in an R&D setting I was really able to get hands-on and learn the different tools they incorporate to make their work. I hope to use some in my own practice.

Their stance and practice of taking care of their team is something I believe the greater arts community can learn and benefit from. I felt at home in the DYT environment and really well cared for and I hope to return to them soon.”

This placement was made possible through Bradford Producing Hub’s Behind the Scene series, which provides performance makers in Bradford the opportunity to observe rehearsal and R&D processes, providing the time and space for them to reflect and stretch their own approaches to creating work.
