Aspiring performers invited to join City of Culture production

Bradford-based theatre company Displace Yourself Theatre (DYT) is inviting budding performers based in Bradford District to get involved in their production as part of Bradford 2025 City of Culture, A World Without Death, this September.

The local theatre company is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join their community chorus, where aspiring performers will get a chance to work alongside professional actors, dancers and singers as part of DYT’s playful, outdoor performance taking place across Bradford on the 5th, 6th, and 7th September.

This exciting opportunity is open to anyone based in Bradford District. Volunteers will get a chance to take part in workshops with DYT’s professional performers, gain experience and confidence in acting and have a chance to be involved in a City of Culture production. No previous performance experience is necessary and volunteers will get full training on how to be a playful member of DYT’s ensemble.

Mike Auger, Co-Director of DYT, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring performers and anyone who would like to be a part of a Bradford 2025 performance. A World Without Death is our brilliant show blending belting live music with captivating multi-lingual storytelling and Bradfordians will be a part of the world premier of this show before it goes on national tour. A World Without Death is brought together by a diverse cast of professional performers and community members. Joining our community chorus is a chance to take part in the movement and singing that makes this show so unique and vibrant.”

Rehearsals will take place every Saturday in August and with extra rehearsals during the first week of September in Bradford city centre. Volunteers must be available for all or most rehearsal dates and available for all performance days on the 5th, 6th, and 7th September. Refreshments will be provided at half-day rehearsals and lunch at full day rehearsals. Contributions towards travel costs are also available for anyone based outside the city centre.

Bradford residents aged eighteen and over are invited to apply by emailing, recording audio, or video with their name and a brief description about why they’d like to join the community chorus to hello@displaceyourselftheatre.co.uk.
