I remember arriving at my first Displace Yourself Theatre Creating Together meeting in Stockton-on-Tees after a traumatic migration experience with absolutely no english skills or knowledge of the culture but the welcoming atmosphere in the session made me so at ease. Since then, Creating Together has helped me build my confidence, improve my personality and my mental health. Throughout the years, I have been in two shows as a Creating Together member and two shows as a Displace Yourself Theatre Ensemble member, working alongside professional performers. Independent of these roles, creating with the group is always revolutionary – Jen and Mike have an amazing ability of providing a safe and welcoming space that allows everyone to express and explore different subjects without feeling judged.

Through the incredible generosity of our community, we’ve created spaces where people can thrive and express their unique gifts and stories. It’s through this shared effort that individuals like Abigail have flourished – starting as a participant in our Creating Together gathering in Stockton, she has since grown into a member of our professional touring ensemble, a testament to the transformative power of creativity and collaboration.
